Chicken Char Siu
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
300 grams of chicken thighs (the fattier parts are better)
For the Marinade:
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (or Kecap Manis)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, mashed or grated
1 inch ginger, pureed or grated
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
Pinch of white pepper
1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
1. Mix all marinade ingredients in a bowl or resealable bag.
2. Add the chicken to the marinade and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
3. Remove the chicken from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
4. Place the chicken on a baking sheet and put it in the preheated oven.
5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
6. Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
